April Atherton

April, a Butler University grad, has taught and choreographed for studios nationwide. She has taught students of all ages for 25 years in Indiana and the Midwest. Specializing in Ballet, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, & Jazz, she teaches technique across all levels. April continues teaching, choreographing, and inspiring today’s youth as Director & Choreographer for the Stage Struck Company Dancers at Kristie Wright School of Dance. She is a certified member of the Cecchetti Council of America and Dance Masters. April’s attention to technique and building progressions to “connect-the-dots” for studio curriculums is her specialty with Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Lyrical. 

Her passion for dance began when she trained at Louisville Ballet and continued as she became certified through Cecchetti Council of America passing her teacher examinations I-V. Originally from New Albany, Indiana, April has taught and choreographed at DanceWorks, was an R & B Scholarship recipient and an instructor at Retter’s Academy of Dance in Agoura Hills, California. She has performed with the Bridge Company in LA, was an I Love Dance Sweetheart and Scholarship recipient, and won regionally and nationally as a student. Throughout her career, April has also won numerous overall awards for Choreography, Al Gilbert Tap Excellence, & National Top Teacher. She continues to be recognized for her choreography with award-winning routines both regionally and nationally. She has also assisted Darryl & Linda Retter at Dance Teacher Connection Workshops for many years and has been creating technique & combos for MusicWorks Plus. April is excited to be making Teacher Training Aids for MusicWorks and continues educating teachers and students with her progressions across all levels!
